New Details Emerge Regarding Murdered Rapper Found in Barrel at Malibu Lagoon

Malibu Daily News has learned that LASD investigators are inching closer to make an arrest into murder of a rapper found murdered in a barrel floating at the Malibu Lagoon on July 31st.

Javonnta Murphy’s body was identified hours after a lifeguard found a barrel floating in the Malibu Lagoon the morning of July 31st. Witnesses at the scene described thevictim Murphy’s knee protruding from the barrel.Authorities were contacted at about 10:10 AM and dispatched to the Malibu Lagoon.

Authorities first described Murphy’s body to city officials as “decomposing” but it was later confirmed Murphy last spoke to his father on Thursday, just three days before tthe barrel was discovered first in Sunday night by a maintenance worker.

Javonnta Murphy’s body was identified hours after a lifeguard found a barrel floating in the Malibu Lagoon the morning of July 31st. Witnesses at the scene described the victim’s knee protruding from the barrel. Authorities were contacted at about 10:10 AM and dispatched to the Malibu Lagoon.

Authorities confirmed Murphy was shot in the head.

Just four days after the gruesome discovery of Murphy’s body at the Malibu Lagoon yet another member of the Murphy family was shot in South Los Angeles.  Reports immediately surfaced that the brother of the deceased aspiring rapper is tied to the 2020 murder of rapper Pop Smoke.

Jaquan Murphy was first charged with attempted murder for Pop Smoke’s death, but later cleared. He is, however, currently awaiting trial for an unrelated murder in L.A. County.

Investigators believe that there is a probability that retaliation was one of the factors in  Javonnta’s murder however, sources close to the case disclosed to Malibu Daily News that Javonnta was “100% killed in Malibu” most likely due a connection to drugs, more specifically underground marijuana dealing.

Sources close to the case told Malibu Daily News the murder is tracing back to one of the largest gangs from South Central with a connection the underground Marijuana world previously reported by Malibu Daily News.

Rappers and individuals closely associated with these activities are known to rent out Malibu Airbnbs under the guise of filming rap videos, throwing lavish parties, with illegal drugs and committing criminal acts – a growing and extensive threat the community and the safety of residents in the area.

Javonnta Murphy’s Instagram profile featured exposes his connection to multiple dark forces, openly posting bondage sex scenes he videoed among other potentially dangerous connections he openly associated with that may ultimately have led to his demise.

Murphy also posted videos at the beach which authorities believe was located in Malibu.
