Another Developer-Backed Smear Campaign Hits Malibu Mailboxes – But This Town Has Seen This Trash Before

A fresh wave of political garbage just landed in the mailboxes of Malibu residents – an anonymous, fear-mongering flyer attacking Council member Steve Uhring, accusing him of ignoring building code violations on his property for over 270 days. The flyer, hiding behind the flimsy name “Malibu Residents for Fairness,” paints Uhring as a corrupt, vindictive official unfit for office.

These anonymous cowards are weaponizing our own city hall to harass elected officials and Malibu nonprofits with more political hits. Once again.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t about code violations. It’s about political retaliation – and the developers behind this stunt are betting members of the community are too distracted or too tired to notice. Spoiler: they’re wrong. Again.

Pro-community candidates Steve Uhring and Bruce Silverstein won the top two spots in the November, 2024 election despite large amounts of money invested by out-of-town developers into smear campaigns against them.

The Usual Suspects

This is just the latest smear effort from the same pro-development crowd that tried to buy the last election – and got publicly humiliated. As previously reported by Malibu Daily News, the “Moving California Forward PAC” pumped massive cash into attack ads against Uhring and fellow council member Bruce Silverstein, hoping to replace them with the pro-developer poster boy, Paul Grisanti. That campaign failed spectacularly.

Paul Grisanti’s connection to “Moving California Forward”.

Despite the PAC spending tens of thousands of developer dollars (some say far more), Grisanti lost – and Silverstein and Uhring were re-elected by voters who’ve had enough of backroom deals and Malibu’s city hall being treated like a vending machine for high-end real estate projects.

It appears the endgame is to aggressively and publicly intimidate Malibu officials and residents from speaking out against any commercial development in this city. One example, the PCH Malibu Pier Hotel decision is nearing the one year mark, developers will soon be able to reapply to build a hotel that was shown to violate Malibu Codes.

Now, these same political cowards are slithering back under a new name, peddling the same tired narrative – because they can’t control Uhring, and that makes him dangerous to their bottom line.

Manufactured Scandals for Sale

The accusations in the flyer? Weak, recycled, and dripping with hypocrisy. They’re blasting Uhring for alleged code violations while conveniently ignoring the developers who treat enforcement like a speed bump on the road to the next luxury subdivision.

These attacks are coming from the same faction that’s weaponized Code Enforcement against political opponents, bullied city staff into silence, and harassed residents who dared to speak out against Malibu’s overdevelopment. Now they want to cry “fairness”? Please.

The truth? Uhring and Silverstein have spent years pulling back the curtain on how Malibu’s political machine really operates – and that’s exactly why they’re under attack.

Malibu’s Political Mafia Can’t Stand Accountability

What really terrifies these people is accountability. Uhring doesn’t play nice with developers who think campaign donations buy silence. He doesn’t hand out building favors like Halloween candy. And he sure as hell doesn’t bow to PACs trying to turn Malibu into Beverly Hills by the beach.

This flyer isn’t activism – it’s desperation. A last-ditch effort to distract residents while the real corruption stays tucked behind closed doors.

But here’s the problem for them: Malibu residents have seen this sleazy movie before. And they’re no longer interested in letting developers direct the sequel.

Time to Call the Bluff

It’s time Malibu stopped tolerating these smear campaigns disguised as civic concern. The developers behind this letter are hoping residents won’t ask who paid for it. They’re betting the media won’t dig into the connections. And they’re praying no one follows the money back to the same special interests that have been trying to bulldoze Malibu’s soul for decades.

But this town has had enough. The only thing being violated here is the public trust—and residents are smarter than the developers give them credit for.

Malibu Residents for Fairness? More like Malibu Residents for Favoritism and Fast-Tracking Development.

Mail all the lies you want. Malibu’s not buying it.
