Legal counsel for Nobu and Malibu resident, Perry Wander, announced on social media shortly before the Fourth of July, that his client, Nobu Malibu, would move forward with the annual high-profile White Party hosted by Bootsy Bellows.
As a result of that decision, one of the guests who attended the event, social media influencer Summer Wheaton, 32, left the party in her Mercedes 2019 Mercedes GLC43 and collided head-on with 44 year old Martin Okeke, killing him instantly.
The City initially revoked the permits to move forward with the party based on the mayhem the event caused in 2023.
Wander a 40-year resident of Malibu, posted a long diatribe on social media maintaining that he believed permit being denied by the City was the result of officials pandering to a “few disgruntled residents”, rather than an exercise in public safety based on Nobu’s mishandling of the 2023 event.
Mayor Steve Uhring and council member Bruce Silverstein supported the City’s decision to revoke the permits for the event.
Council member Silverstein, also a practicing attorney, even went a step further suggesting the City seek an emergency restraining order against Nobu should they fail to confirm they will not move forward with the event.
City Manager Steve McClary was contacted July 5th, regarding the unpermitted Nobu event that resulted in the fatal crash.
McClary responded he was “absolutely aware of the events of the day and was in communication with my staff and LASD who were monitoring the event all day”.
In layman’s terms, the City allowed the event to proceed, without interference, event thought the permit was revoked and resulted in a fatal car crash.
Additionally, Wander made a direct threat to council members who opposed Nobu’s permit for the event this year and their bid for re-election by suggesting Nobu property owner and billionaire Larry Ellison will be throwing his money around to secure more permit friendly politicians:
“Any council member that jumped on the bandwagon and opposed this permit, Mr. Ellison and the owners of Nobu, will do everything they can to make sure that whoever is running against them in the next election, is extremely well funded.”
