Malibu residents and beach goers can breathe a little sigh of relief knowing the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station Beach Team patrol will start ahead of schedule this year after the harrowing experience a community member reported last weekend to the Lost Hills Station.
Resident Danette Eilenberg noticed a suspicious man in a trench coast and dark sunglasses walking toward her Sunday at a crowded Zuma Beach. Eilenberg sensing some type of potential danger, immediately called the Lost Hills Station. Deputies responding to the scene found the suspect Kyle Kiddy, 34, of Riverside, armed with a modified rifle with a scope and 3 .22 caliber pistols on his person. Upon searching Kiddy’s van, deputies discovered two more shotguns and ammunition. A source close to the case described Kiddy “attack ready”.
The City of Malibu, under contract with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, approved the additional funding recently for more patrols in anticipation of the growing crowds visiting Malibu area beaches this summer. The Lost Hills Station Beach Team Patrol has been in service during summer months locally for decades and this year, with the uptick in crime county wide, will be a welcome sight – especially as Malibu residents recover from the shock of this recent arrest.
Beach Team Patrols start May 1st on weekends until July 1st, when patrols will increase to seven days a week until Labor Day weekend.
