The Malibu Local Election Imperative

By Sam Hall Kaplan

If there is a paramount issue in the upcoming local election, it is the candidacy of Paul Grisanti, and the imperative importance of his defeat.

Malibu does not need, neither can it afford, four more years of his scheming on City Council; his blatant bowing to special interests, blocking urgent public safety initiatives, and appointing a compromised surrogate to the critical Planning Commission.

Looking past Grisanti’s lawn signs is his denuded tenure on City Council that specifically includes his obstinate support of the bloated Surfrider Project in face of multiple flaws, and his attempt to bribe the city to become a dupe for a realtor lobbyist cabal.

Those are just two of a long list of Grisanti’s disservices on the Council, which I note is being imaginatively detailed with disdain by others in the local social media. May they resonate.

As for the lawn signs, their viewing if anything should be a reminder of his duplicity. That he would run for reelection after demonstrably deceiving the city and its citizenry in his aiding and abetting of indiscriminate development is more than shameful

It displays an alarming ignorance, especially of a resident of long standing, of the beguiling character and fragile environment that have made Malibu a desired iconic coastal community, and not incidentally, lend it value.

Grisanti heedless short-sighted support of excessive commercial and indulged residential projects, so damaging to Malibu’s livability, in effect short-changes the real estate community he says to represent.

The true value of Malibu is its quality of life, the preservation of which is detailed in the noble Vision and Mission statements prefacing the Municipal Code. Its support should be the measure of the upcoming local election.
